This £3.8 million project with architects Grant Murray, won the Scottish Design Awards 2012 ‘Affordable Housing’ commendation and the Herald Property Awards 2012 ‘Social Housing Development of the Year’ commendation.
What did Grant Murray want?
The innovative conversion of the old primary school into flats brought an exciting mix of old and new.
The Grant Murray team wanted to create ‘a modern counterbalance to the new streetscape, whilst honouring the key design features of the old school’.
Externally the school building was completely restored to its original glory and with nothing but the most modern and innovative of lighting systems good enough for Grant Murray’s discerning architects, Surelight was commissioned in to bring a modern and impressive twist to the building.
How did Surelight achieve this?
One of the most progressive lighting companies in the business, Surelight used its single colour Arcus II LED wall washers, in various lengths to provide a wonderful glow to the ‘C’ listed building’s façade.
With the old school located on the highest street in Glasgow, Surelight’s lighting on the building’s façade is seen for miles around. The transformed ‘C’ listed building is now the centre of the street’s regeneration, becoming a positive local landmark.
This was a very exciting project to be involved in. Our LED wall washers offer a world of amazing lighting options for domestic and commercial applications; it is fantastic to see them being used in award winning projects.
