Custom Build

Here at Surelight, we want our customers to feel able to approach us with their ideas and concepts, designs and plans.  We believe that virtually any concept can be made into a reality; all it takes is an informal chat with our staff.
As a specialised business, we have the expertise to advise you so that we can provide you with the most suitable solution for your purpose.
We can custom build these designs to your exact specifications in our highly equipped workshop in Sheffield.

Our custom build designs range from large scale art installations, to theatrical props and set design, to small signs and displays for local shops and businesses.   But we don't just supply to the commercial industry.  Hundreds of our customers are members of the public who contact us for advice about their own ideas for the wire; to decorate tables at weddings, to illuminate their garden, for costumes or party outfits... We find that clients often return to us time and time again with new ideas for designs, having been delighted with the level of customer care and advice we provide.

For any enquiries regarding custom build solutions, please give us a ring on 01142 361 606, or if you prefer, email us at info@surelight.com.

Small scale design

Designer Adam Walker approached Surelight in July 2006, with the idea of incorporating our Surelight Neon Glow Wire into a pair of Adidas trainers for the international singer Lady Sovereign who wished to illuminate her footwear for her performances.  We unfortunately cannot publish who this is on our website!

After a chat with one of our staff, Adam ordered some red Mini wire.  We advised him to use this grade of wire as it is our thinnest grade and therefore very flexible.  It would also make it easier to attach into trainers than our thicker grades.  We also developed a small powerpack which was small enough to be concealed within the shoe.
Adam is now developing more footwear designs which will incoporate Surelight Glow Wire, under his company website, ghettro.com.

Medium scale design

In conjunction with artist Nathaniel Rackowe, we helped create 'Spin', a large scale design for an art installation in the Forest of Dean in April 2006.  This design was exhibited in a selected area of the Sculpture Trail.  It consisted of nearly a kilometer of White Surelight Neon Glow Wire and sequencing inverters.  The wire we advised Nathaniel to use was our Super Bright wire, our brightest grade, which would create the most dramatic effect.

A review of this design was featured in Axisweb where they commented "Glowing wires constructed a 3D illusion of a digitally rendered wireframe drawing. Suspended high up in the trees, the rectangular form appeared to move in and around them, constricting and containing them, ignoring their structural dominance, cutting through their power. Suggestions of urban neon, of advertising, of technology, juxtaposed against the rural defying it".

Large scale designs using DMX control

One of our most complex designs to date was the Royal Opera House's production of 'Gentle Giant', which ran from November 2005 - January 2006.  The lighting department approached us with the concept of creating a seemingly moving river bed on their stage.  In order to create this special effect, we supplied them with a 512 channel, 64 port DMX control interface unit.  This allowed them to create wonderful rippling watery effects with the long lengths of aqua, blue and green Glow Wire in our Max grade.  At 5mm diameter, Max is our thickest standard grade, and this grade was used because the wires were under constant tension.  Alison Richie, the show's Production Manager, was highly delighted with the effects that were created, and assured us they would be using the Surelight river bed again in 2007 when the show is repeated.

Another large scale Surelight design is the The Blue Man Group's spectacular show, which is currently featuring our Glow Wire at the New London Theatre on Drury Lane.   They are using 2 kilometers of our red and blue Heavy Duty wire.  This wire was chosen because of the general wear and tear upon the product over the duration of the show.

They are using our wire to create special holographic effects; "great physical gags...a cartoon man springing into 3-D life" says the Independent on Sunday.  These effects are controlled through DMX interface units.

Designer Tuukka Halonen's electroluminescent spheres utilises our Glow Wire and multichannel DMX units, creating the effect of floating spheres in space.  The spheres are built from different sized triangles, creating beautiful geometrically decorative ambient lighting.  Tuukka chose Super Bright, the brightest grade, thus giving the most dramatic lighting effects.  If anyone is interested, Tuukka is now offering to sell these spheres with simple control units supplied by ourselves.
