The technicolour LED lighting brings a wonderful new dimension to the restored Sheffield canal basin. The waterway under the Straddle warehouse’s historic stanchions were lit to amazing effect allowing visitors to see the Victorian engineering in all its splendour.

Lighting used in this project:

The Canal and River Trust was after a fresh new look for the Straddle Warehouse to put it back on the map as one of Sheffield’s most celebrated landmarks.

Challenges. This Grade II listed building spans the canal basin in Sheffield’s Victoria Quays and the lighting solution needed to illuminate the eastern elevation, provide navigation light for canal boats, highlight the historic building’s architectural and engineering qualities and have a dramatic impact factor from afar.

Implementation. Our technical staff discussed requirements with The Canal and River Trust and suggested Surelight Arcus II RGB LED Wall Washers. The Arcus wall washers now throw a beautiful wash a light light across all five stories of the building. Surelight’s technicians programmed the new lighting to provide a spectacular light show. We also recommended Tutis LED floodlights to give much needed navigation light for canal boats mooring in the historic quays.

Benefits. The technicolour LED lighting brings a wonderful new dimension to the restored Sheffield canal basin.
The waterway under the Straddle warehouse’s historic stanchions were lit to amazing effect allowing visitors to see the Victorian engineering in all its splendour. Navigation safety for boats mooring in the dark has been greatly improved.
